Renderer is Auralic Aries.īubbleUpnp does support your #1 and #2. I am using MinimServer on a Synology DS414 and BubbleUpnp on a tablet. The sound quality is truly great and I love how few components there are. Quote from: fiveoclockfriday on, 12:40 pm Hello, my current setup is a Synology NAS (running Media Server + Bubble UPnP server which makes it openhome compatible), which is connected to a Cambridge Audio CXN, which goes out via xlr to a pair of DAC Maraschino monobolocks, to Kef LS50. Actually, I am looking forward to comparing the Airplay and USB inputs to see how Airplay stacks up.įire away with questions or it you want to see screenshots of the Roon software. But my plan is to purchase a CXN and use Airplay for casual listening, and use the hp Pavilion Mini/USB input for serious listening. I currently use Roon to stream via Airplay on the receivers and it sounds very good. I use the Roon iOS remote on my phone as the remote control. I have Marantz and Yamaha media receivers that are UPnP and Airplay compatible and have been using Roon for about six months after having tried all the UPnP apps you mentioned along with many others. If you decide you like the Roon interface but are worried about the sound quality of the Airplay interface, you can get a small computer like this hP Mini running Roon endpoint software connected to the CXN's USB input as an endpoint. The CXN will show up as a Roon endpoint since it is Airplay compatible. Sign up for a free Roon trial if your NAS supports it. Is there something I'm missing to make UPnP apps better or is it just a limitation of the format? Perhaps a different setup on the NAS? Is Audio Station better than Media server? I've heard good things about Lumin and Auralic apps, but neither one seemed to work for me - they needed actual products from those companies. this is a tough one I know, but the ability to show a list of 'recently added' albums?. fast forwarding/rewinding within a track?.searching - this is a big one, how do you not have search? am I just dense and missing it?.Specifically, most of the apps I tried do not support: What I can't help but feel is that none of them are offering some of the things I got with past setups (which involved a Raspberry Pi running Volumio or Moode (so Mpd software), or way back to a Squeezebox). I don't have a full list, but I've tried things like: The sound quality is truly great and I love how few components there are.īut, I am quite disappointed with all the control apps I've tried. The other benefit is that the computer becomes unnecessary with the UPnP media server running on the NAS.Īll this becomes moot, if you are not running and using MinimServer (or any other UPnP media server for that matter) on the NAS where the music files are stored and are also thinking of using the computer as the UPnP control point (eg via JRiver's GUI).Hello, my current setup is a Synology NAS (running Media Server + Bubble UPnP server which makes it openhome compatible), which is connected to a Cambridge Audio CXN, which goes out via xlr to a pair of DAC Maraschino monobolocks, to Kef LS50. This therefore doesn't burden the network with double the amount of data that JRiver as a UPnP media server running on the computer does (JRiver not only uses the network to actually provide the streaming UPnP media data to the Rendu UPnP renderer, but it also uses it to initially access the file data from the NAS's network shared folders in the first place). The main advantage of using MinimServer as the UPnP media server over JRiver is that it can potentally run on the NAS itself, so have direct access to the music files stored on it. That is my PC will only be used to run JRiver, with all the files and audio processing NOT going through my PC.No, you should still be able to use JRiver's own library as the UPnP media server (instead of MinimServer) for the Rendu, if you wish, just make sure JRiver is not set to transcode, ie, do any audio processing on the files while they are being streamed by the Rendu. I understand that I can keep my same work flow: NAS - Router - Rendu SSR - DAC, but use JRiver as the GUI. Listening to files on a NAS, and using MinimServer, BubbleUPnp, and Lumin resulted in a vast improvement in SQ, but although all my files are correctly tagged in JRiver, MinimServer is extremely picky and it's display of the NAS's library is full of errors, and deletions, to the point that it's just about unusable. Previously I used JRiver on my dedicated audio PC with no problems. Hopefully I'm posting this to the correct forum.
